The protruding part is called a tenon (or mortise). The recessed part is called a mortise (or tenon hole, tenon groove). The tenon and mortise interlock to serve as a connection. According to research, mortise and tenon structures were widely used in house construction as early as the Neolithic Age, about 7,000 years earlier than Lego!
🟢 Shanghai K11, with the theme of “The Revival of Wood Architecture”, invites a hundred master architects and inheritors of intangible cultural heritage to participate. Select the most representative works of traditional and contemporary architecture and furniture, while showcasing and elaborating on the important components of wooden structures. Both the design appearance and the technical craftsmanship are breathtaking.
🔵 is divided into five sections: “Seven Columns”, “Wood and Water”, “Wood and Craft”, “Wood and Life”, and “Wood and Art”. And the display of the works has been extended beyond the exhibition hall, and related works can be seen on every floor of K11.
🟡 A circular water system made of natural stone in the exhibition hall connects the exhibits and the visiting path, creating a contemporary version of “Meandering cups”, allowing visitors to experience the refined and elegant tastes of ancient scholars.
